Hijab is such a complex process that has so many different layers to it. It is something that we continue to learn about everyday as Muslim women. Hijab is a different process for every girl/woman, do not compare your journey to the rest and do not rush or underestimate yourself. I like to think that the way hijab is introduced to us is the way we will always feel about it for the most part. Your first impression of hijab is the most crucial part of the process. The connotation and the tone around hijab at home or just in your personal life, in general, affects how you will walk around thinking/feeling about hijab forever. Because not everyone can see rainbows and butterflies about hijab because it is almost inevitable that there will be people like myself that did not grow up loving the hijab and still struggle with it today. I am a huge believer of everything happening for a reason and with that being said I understand that because of my journey, I think it challenged me to grow a lot spiritually and sparked an interest for me in fashion.

I put the hijab on my senior year of high school (very bold decision if you ask me) and I've been wearing it ever since aH. I feel like had I not made that decision then, I would probably not be wearing it today (subhanallah timing is everything). I still struggle with keeping it on every day just like every other girl but I don't think I would change that for the world because wearing the hijab keeps me poised, humble and more importantly it keeps me spiritually connected to my religion due to it being a constant reminder.

Being confident while wearing the hijab is very tough for me sometimes, it can seem boring/repetitive because it is a lot more difficult to try new things with hijab vs. styling your hair (iykyk). All that means is getting out of my comfort zone and trying new looks/trends, sometimes you can make up your own! At times it even takes some reverse psychology and self-love to remind myself how distinctive wearing the hijab is and how much it makes me stand out. If you know me, you know that I thrive off of looking and being different (it happens naturally, for the most part, lol). I had to force myself to get over my feelings about not fitting in anywhere I went and that is when I started thriving and living my best life. Hijab has become a huge inspiration to me and has forced me to get out of my comfort zone and create things like this blog and my style diary both on here and on my Instagram. Which has become a way to keep modesty a lot more fun and interesting for me. It has given me a new perspective and at the end of the day, it's about wearing the hijab the way I feel most comfortable with and that took many years to figure out and still changes as I grow.

Next time you see a hijabi lets remember to smile to them because we are all sisters going through some of the same experiences and that we acknowledge this beautiful struggle we both share, because if we don't then who will?

Love this blog post! I didn't really think about/consider the fact that our first impressions with hijab really does play a big role in how we view it and for that reason, people really have no reason to scrutinize someone for not wearing it or wearing it a certain way because everyone is on their own journey. And YES, alhamdulilah for this beautiful struggle we share and for this community of muslim women!!

I feel like its sometimes tough for Muslim guys to empathize with someone in a hijab, what do you think would help someone such as someone who doesn't wear hijab or even a brother/father who can't empathize with someone who wears a hijab to understand the perspective?
